I had my degree conferred in January. However, there is a big difference between 'having a degree conferred' and participating in your momentous commencement ceremony. I was going to blow off the whole thing but I am so glad I changed my mind, sitting on the National mall this weekend all capped and gowned. The ceremony, like many ceremonies throughout many cultures, may seem outdated or unnecessary, but provides closure, perhaps when you didn't even know you needed it.

That is why, with my imminent departure, I am making my last time in the US of A about closure. It's not hard to do, in fact I would consider myself a specialist in last hurrahs. In my life, closure often means celebration rather than somber reflection (my funeral will hopefully be legen...wait for it...dary!). As such, my May is stacked! Since being done work on Thursday, and graduating Sunday, I have time to enjoy being home and all its accouterments such as a farewell BBQ, a visit from my Rome roommates and even a concert on my birthday...

Grandpa: Is it a rock and roll concert?
 Me: No...its uh, dance music
Grandpa: Ah yeah, big band?
Me: Yes, something like that. Dutch big band.

Anyway, I got my Staging email last week and it said to report to Filthadelphia Flipadelphia Philadelphia on June, 6th, and I couldn't be happier to leave from somewhere that feels like home. We leave Center City to catch our flight to Jo-burg at 3:00 AM, leaving just enough time to stop by Moriarty's (actually Voyeur, what?)  to cheers with someone I am going to miss immensely. Even though my days with hot showers, refrigeration and the beach are numbered, the end is shaping up to be pretty awesome.
